Today started out at 75 at 8:00 so it'll be a hot one for sure! Guys left around 6:00 to fish & got back about 10:30 - no fish today. John, Lois & Maggie went to get clams & oysters after they got back. The clams are in bags hanging from a rope by the shore & the oysters are in Harv's bait tank which is built in under the swim step.
It got to 87 inside the boat & out today. Went for a dinghy ride to cool off - there were 15 boats in Laura Cove but no one we knew. Dinner tonight was barbequed ribs, quinoa/brown rice & green salad, with banana bread & cream cheese for dessert. While we were eating, we saw a deer eating leaves on Scobell.

July 9th - Scobell
This morning John & Lois went fishing - they left at 5:00 & caught 2 salmon & 1 cod. Maggie & Harv went on their boat at 6:00 & caught 2 salmon. That means that dinner plans changed from meatloaf to a fish fry with the cod!
Rod stayed home with me. It was 69 at 7:30 - it'll be a hot one today. We went for a dinghy ride late this morning to cool off & survey the number of boats. There were about 20 boats in Prideaux Haven & 5 in Melanie Cove - mostly Canadians. We attempted to go through the narrow channel to Laura Cove but it was a minus tide so we hit bottom & turned around. When we got close to our raft we saw that the first of the SYC raft boats has arrived. We assume the rest are on the way - they usually have 1-5 boats tied together & are right across from us.
It got up to high 80's today so dinner waited until 8:30 when it cools down a little. Appies were skewers with shrimp (the Canadians call them prawns) & sausage - yum!

July 8th - Scobell
The guys (3 now) left before 6:00 this morning to fish & were back by 9:30 with 3 salmon. While they were gone I did 3 loads of laundry (1 to go) - partially dried in the dryer & now hanging around inside the boat to finish drying. It was partly cloudy this morning & in the lower 60's - actually a nice change since it was so hot yesterday afternoon. It did get up to the mid-70's in the afternoon, with a nice breeze.
Tonight our appetizers were smoked salmon, hot artichoke dip, cheese, crackers & nuts. For dinner we had salmon steaks that were caught today, corn on the cob, a delicious potato casserole & 4 bean marinated salad. While we were eating left over brownies for dessert, Lois heard something & then I saw a prawn trap that was stored on Scobell Island moving. We all watched as a black bear crawled out of it - we think there must have been a scent of bait still in it. The guys thought it probably weighed 250-300 lbs. It made for great evening entertainment!!!
