John, Rod & Harv left at 4:30 this morning to get fuel at Lund & then fish. They board the boat next to us so I heard them getting ready to go. I set my alarm to wake up at 6:00 to feed the cat & give him his meds then went back to sleep until 8:00. It was 70 at 8:00 so we're in for another beautiful day! The wind was blowing & there were no fish caught so the guys were back by 9:30.
We played canasta around 10:00 this morning on our flybridge table as 2 of the boats were leaving this afternoon. Rod forgot to put our umbrella on the boat when we left, but John had some extras so he lent us one which we'll use for the rest of our trip. It makes such a difference when it's so hot out. It was in the 80's again, with very little breeze. It's still 82 inside the boat at 8pm.
Carol & Mike came over a couple times today - once to say goodbye as they're heading out in the morning & then again to use our phone/internet connection as they are not getting reception in Prideaux Haven.
Dinner tonight (at 8:30 since it's so hot) was barbequed chicken, asparagus,cauliflower with cheese sauce & salad. Our appetizers were pot stickers, smoked salmon & some cheese & crackers. There are just 6 of us left - much easier than cooking for 10.

July 7th - Scobell
Finally - woke up to beautiful weather, 70 degrees at 9am. The rest of the sunscreens went on The windows & doors when I got up, shades closed on sunny side of boat & all windows opened to start the cooling off process. So happy to have to do that after all the rain we've had.
One of the raft boats took off this morning until the end of the month, then they'll be back. 3 of the guys headed out at 5:30 to fish & were back by 10:00 with 2 salmon. Tomorrow they're leaving at daybreak & will go to Lund for fuel & fishing.
Another boat came to the raft this afternoon - they'll leave tomorrow with another boat so we'll be down to 3 boats. It got up to 85 today - love it! Appetizers today were smoked salmon & gravlox with dinner of 2 pizzas (1 pepperoni & 1 prawn), green salad, a cole slaw mix, corn casserole & watermelon for dessert.

July 6th - Scobell
Woke up to another day/night of pouring rain. Rod still left at 5:45 - not my idea of fun but hopefully the fishing is good. So far this year, the shrimping has been terrible but the salmon catching has been great. Desolation is still very empty - maybe this rain is keeping people away. I'm so glad we're in the raft & not anchored out by ourselves. At least we can go visit other boats, find conversation, play games, etc.
So...the guys came back about 10:30, the 2 boats got 5 salmon. It rained the whole time they were gone & Rod came back drenched. He accidently took one of my coats (???) which was red & a windbreaker - NOT a raincoat & NOT waterproof. It dripped red color all over John's boat, Rod's clothes underneath, the shower I hung it in when he got back (until I saw what was happening & clipped a plastic bag around the bottom). Now, one of MY questions was, didn't he try it on before he left...the answer was no, he just stuffed it in his bag. OK...!!! A ha-ha moment I think....
In the afternoon I played 2 games of real scrabble with one of the ladies & then the 4 of us played canasta again. The Silhans came over to use our antenna for their phone & devices since they couldn't get reception in Prideaux Haven where they are anchored. The service has been much worse than usual this year for everyone except us.
We didn't do a group dinner tonight - we ate with Kippers & the other 3 boats ate together. We had hamburgers, corn, baked beans & apple pie which Maggie made for everyone.

July 5th - Scobell Island
Today it rained off & on all day, after pouring most of the night. The girls played canasta again in the afternoon, with cocktails. The guys worked on different problems on their boats & with technology challenges with poor cellular reception & ipads for some. They also had the leftover steak from last night for lunch.
Dinner was barbequed salmon (1 red, 1 white) prepared 2 different ways (1 with brown sugar, the other with lemon pepper), potatoes, cole slaw, pea pods, corn on the cob & little brownies for dessert.
Tomorrow Rod & John are leaving at 5:45am to go fishing, with the other guys following about 7:00. I'll be trying to sleep.

7/4 - Scobell Island in Desolation Sound
Happy 4th of July everyone!!! We left Pender at 6:40am, with hazy skies & no wind, heading for Malispina Strait. Ripple water the whole way to Desolation Sound. Arrived at 12:40 got our toys tied to the side of the boat (dinghy & 1 kayak, the other to come later, anchor dropped since its been windy here & rafted to our friends, the Kippers. Its been cloudy & drizzling since we arrived. There are 5 boats in the raft right now.
3 of the girls spent the afternoon teaching me how to play canasta (everyone seems to have a different version). We had a lot of laughs & even some martinis delivered by one of the guys! Then back to our respective boats to prepare for the real cocktail hour that started around 7:00. It was awesome - all the fish was freshly caught: smoked salmon that was so moist, prawns, barbequed ling cod with a rub & lemon pepper & hummus with veggies. We all said we didn't need dinner but went back to our boats again to get our sides. Dinner was small barbequed steaks circled with bacon, a salad, rice & a curry chicken dish. Because there were 10 of us, we split onto 2 boats for dinner. Some how we all managed to finish most of the food.
It started raining heavily late in the afternoon & poured all night. It's expected to be that way for a couple of days.
